Stainless steel Rolex GMT-Master II model 16710 T with black dial and new red / blue bezel insert, on Oysterlock 78790A bracelet. This superb D939xxx case-number watch with 3185 calibre movement comes with Rolex boxes, GMT-Master booklet, red swing-tag and UK papers from Fraser Hart in Hendon dated February 2007. Please note that this watch has the desirable “rectangle II” dial, where the number “II” after GMT-Master is denoted by roman numerals with only slights serifs in the four corners. A close up picture of this element can be seen if you click on the image to the left, then on the relevant “thumbnail” on the single item screen*. An interesting discussion about these dials may be found on one our favourite websites, www.newturfers.com. Interest in these 16710 GMT-Masters IIs is at an all time high, led by those with 3186 calibres and the so-called “sticks” dials but all are proving exceptionally desirable. This watch is in generally excellent condition. The fatter, NEW equivalent GMT-Master II is now £6,200 but this earlier, less bulky and some would say more interesting model has an army of followers who have chased prices ever higher since it was discontinued.
* If you click on that close-up, you will see the peculiarly boxy “II”, the oddly-shaped “G” of GMT-Master, the small and thin “SWISS MADE” text and the unusual space after the hyphen in “GMT- Master II”.
