    • Unworn since overhaul by Rolex UK — and still in their service stickers : a highly desirable Rolex “HULK” Submariner. Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner model 116610LV with green dial and ceramic bezel insert on Oyster Glidelock 97200 bracelet. Comes with Rolex boxes, Submariner booklet, chronometer swing-tag and one of the very latest Rolex World Service cards*. This random case number watch is in superb condition after an £889 movement overhaul and new glass. Like many steel models in the “professional” range, the 116610LV remains highly desirable. The NEW equivalent is now £9,450 but both versions have been hard to find in the UK, so it attracts a significant premium. Clearly if you can find a new one at RRP then you should buy it – we wish we could !

    * These latest service cards first appeared in late 2023. They bear no visible details of the watch or service, but instead a QR code that leads to an on-line demonstration of how to access the associated watch’s service details. By holding an enabled smart-phone next to the card, an NFC link is provided which brings up the watch’s unique details and in this instance confirms that it has a service warranty which runs until February 2026.

    • Daytona destruction! Who takes a good watch and messes about with it, such that it loses most of its inherent qualities and will now be almost unserviceable? We do not like the third-party, unofficial trade in “bespoke” pieces like this watch (originally a steel Rolex Daytona 116520), that seem designed for buyers with more money than sense or taste. The poor quality skeleton dial, failing bezel and generic rubber strap (not shown) all destroy value. Left alone, this watch might by now have been worth a five figure sum. Chopped apart and with inferior, non-Rolex parts added it will costs thousands to restore and its value in this form is a fraction of what it could have been.
