Stainless steel “polar” Rolex Explorer II model 16570 with white “SWISS-T<25” dial on Oyster Fliplock 93150 bracelet. It shows signs of only moderate wear for its age and comes with Rolex boxes, Explorer booklet and UK papers from Goldsmiths dated August 1997. While most associate the Fliplock 93150 bracelet with Submariner models, it was an option on the 16570 for many years, although we note that the clasp on this one has separately been replaced at some point. The latest, fat-case Explorer II now has a new RRP of £8,500 but all the earlier generations of professional models like this attract great interest in their own right.

    • Daytona destruction! Who takes a good watch and messes about with it, such that it loses most of its inherent qualities and will now be almost unserviceable? We do not like the third-party, unofficial trade in “bespoke” pieces like this watch (originally a steel Rolex Daytona 116520), that seem designed for buyers with more money than sense or taste. The poor quality skeleton dial, failing bezel and generic rubber strap (not shown) all destroy value. Left alone, this watch might by now have been worth a five figure sum. Chopped apart and with inferior, non-Rolex parts added it will costs thousands to restore and its value in this form is a fraction of what it could have been.
