£4,499 Stock number: 12-89-072 / X22504RARE model 16660 stainless steel Rolex Sea-Dweller with boxes and UK papers ! This 854xxxxx case number watch is one of the first sapphire glass Sea-Dwellers and comes with original boxes and UK papers from David M. Robinson dated January 1987, the green plastic wallet in which they came, the alternate extension link and some David M. Robinson purchase / warranty papers detailing the original purchase price . . . £805! The bracelet and bezel insert are now showing their age but can be replaced, at a price. The dial is worthy of greater comment: over 27 years it has “marbled” evenly, acquiring an almost tropical or brown hue, currently rather in contrast to the newer set of bright white hands. Definitely one for a collector, either to keep as it is or to restore sympathetically. There aren't many 16660s on the market with their original papers now!

It has the later dial with white gold surrounds to the luminous dots, but why is it so cheap ? We're selling this as a well-worn “beater,” a Rolex for everyday use which is already somewhat worn so that you don't mind getting further wear or cosmetic marking. The glass shows visible wear to the edge, the bezel is somewhat stiff and the worn bracelet appears to have had some repairs carried out by a third party, not Rolex. To be specific, the two end links are a more modern 93160A solid end link and a curious “592 Z” in the older style, while we believe the wet-suit extension part of the clasp not to be original. Mechanically the Rolex 3035 calibre movement is running well, testing close to perfect for us during April 2014. Sold with our own presentation box and warranty card.

This watch has the later dial with white gold surrounds to the indices, exhibiting a flat, slightly greying appearance from age.
