Comes with its original Rolex papers from Nassau in the Bahamas dated September 1999, the Oyster booklet and later Rolex boxes. The bracelet shows significant wear such as one might expect of an older piece and from its markings does indeed appear to have come from an older watch; perhaps the original was damaged in some way and this one used to replace it. The watch still has a lot of life remaining if kept for lighter, “dress” wear and is priced very keenly for a two-tone model.

£8,299 Stock number: 12-43-020Something special, this : a “Floating dial” Rolex Cosmograph DAYTONA model 16523 on Oyster bracelet with UK box and papers. This R83xxxx case number watch was one of the earliest of the self-winding Daytonas and has some peculiar features. Of greatest interest is the champagne “floating” dial, where the main text is lower than on later versions and the word COSMOGRAPH “floats” a short distance below the other wording. The eagle-eyed may also note the small, rounded font of the sub-dial numbers and the tell-tale “inverted 6” on the hour totaliser. The dial looks to be immaculate! The bezel is the early “200 unit” version and again in superb condition. Early models were correctly fitted with the Oyster 78363 bracelet; this one has an “M8” date code denoting August 1988 manufacture and its condition further indicates that this watch has barely been worn in all these years. The green sticker with coronet and 16523 is still in place on the case-back! Comes with original inner and outer 16523 boxes (with distinctive, early interior), Cosmograph booklet (featuring floating dial models and “3.1988” date code), red swing-tag, numbered green swing-tag, black document wallet, 1989-1990 calendar card and UK papers from Dipple & Son Ltd (now of Norwich and Dereham), dated 15th September 1989. This has to be one of the nicest and (with apologies to my language teachers) “most complete” examples of this desirable model in existence. A genuine, new Rolex glass has just been fitted, but when the original glass was broken it left a couple of tiny marks on the dial, which are fully reflected in this keen price.
