£8,299 Stock number: 52-33-018COMPROMISED / RE-NUMBERED Rolex GMT-Master, priced accordingly and sold with full disclosure. Stainless steel Rolex GMT-Master, 3175-calibre model 16700 with black “SWISS” dial and “Pepsi” blue and red bezel insert on Jubilee bracelet. We identified this watch as having previously had its original case number (located between the lugs at the six o'clock end) erased and then probably a different case number applied in its place. Accordingly, we sent it to Rolex UK to see if they could confirm our thoughts and the watch's original identity. They identified it as a ROLEX GMT-MASTER…Model 16700….Bracelet Jubilee 62510 20…with Dial 16758 BLAC HMK W but otherwise commented “Serial No. MODIFIED” and “…this watch has been heavily modified. We are unable to offer service facilities to modified models and therefore return the watch in the condition that it was received.“ We believe this supports our own findings. It appears that they did not link it to any watch reported stolen or lost, which might have been identified from the movement number. It could well be, then, that the watch was renumbered either in a clumsy attempt to clarify the original number which had been scratched or damaged in some way, or perhaps the number was changed only to make it appear to correspond with the set of papers accompanying it, in an attempt to add value (which we have seen many times). After Rolex's response, there now appears to be no way of establishing its original identity. The Rolex papers are dated 1997 and belonged to a watch supplied in Corfu, but that may well be no indication of this watch's history if they do not truly belong with it. The watch may have been supplied in any country and at any time between around 1988 and the year 2000. The bracelet appears to be in excellent order and may have been swapped, but the clasp itself bears a date code suggesting that part at least is from the start of the model's production date range. The watch comes with an English language Rolex GMT-Master booklet from 1999, later Rolex boxes, Rolex COSC certificate # T356182 (which must be seen in context and in no way supporting or necessarily associated with this watch) and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that the case number currently applied, at least, has been checked with them. Jubilee bracelets with 502 B end-links like this were a rare but standard option on GMT-Master 16700s. They commonly suffered the effects of wear more than the Oyster variants, although this one appears to be in very good order. We would not wish any subsequent buyer to pay for this watch in the future without realising its full nature, so we publish here its current (if spurious) case number T356182 and movement number 3 8104222 for the record, together with this extensive narrative. We have marked the papers to show that they accompany a renumbered watch. Its 16700 case-back also bears the Rolex service rejection marking LON 11/20 264329XX which corresponds with the paperwork received from them. Rolex UK will not provide service or parts for a watch in these circumstances, so both must be obtained from independent watchmakers if required. It is running within specification at the moment and comes with our usual two year warranty. We feel the watch offers good value at this price (heavily discounted from that of a similar, correct watch), but would like to ensure that any buyer fully understands all that they need to. Stainless steel Rolex GMT-Master II model 16710 with black “SWISS MADE” dial and so-called “COKE” RED / BLACK bezel insert on Oysterlock 78790A bracelet. This 3185-calibre watch has original boxes, GMT-Master booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It is a 2003 model in wonderful condition, with only a few signs of superficial wear to glass and bezel insert. This somewhat collectible model with 738xxxx case number dates from around 1982, which is also consistent with its “G” clasp code. To change the date on this 1520-calibre model, one simply advances the main hands forwards or backwards past midnight. In fine condition for its age, but please note that (1) the dial shows some minor marks and other signs of age, (2) we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant and (3) time-keeping may-not be as accurate as a modern, chronometer-rated Rolex. £9,499 Stock number: 52-53-011Discontinued and collectible! 40mm stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss model 116400 with black / index baton dial having orange detail and “lightning” seconds hand, on Oyster 72400 bracelet. In superb condition with both boxes, Milgauss booklet and UK warranty card from David M. Robinson dated October 2011. The first Milgauss was the model 6541 introduced back in 1956; subsequent models remained in production until 1988, albeit for the most part in the form of the next-generation 1019 variant. It was designed as an especially anti-magnetic model for nuclear scientists near Rolex HQ in Switzerland but has since won desirability in its own right. This watch is one of the newer versions launched at Basel in 2007. Many clients love the modern Milgauss simply for being such a big watch, with its attractive, clear dial options and funky colour accents. This specific variant is itself no longer in production and like many such Professional series watches has a market all of its own.

£2,699 Stock number: 52-51-04426mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual DATE in stainless steel and white metal, model 6917(4) on Jubilee 62510 bracelet. Its original “DATE” dial has been replaced at some point by a genuine (but incorrect for this watch) black / baton DATEJUST SCOC dial that was intended for a later model. This circa 1980 model correctly bears a Rolex 2035 calibre movement and as such does not have the “quick-set” feature, which would allow easier correction of the date at the end of a short month. Unusually, it has been fitted with a synthetic sapphire glass that is not by Rolex, to update the older and more easily marked acrylic glass. We don't as a rule approve of such work, but this appears to have been very well executed, it modernises the watch and tests well for water-resistance. It comes with a Rolex box (the cushion inside is a generic replacement), original vintage YOUR ROLEX OYSTER booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. Such colourful and modern dials have been extremely desirable in recent times. Shows moderate signs of age and general wear, but most noticeable is the hybrid steel / resin strap which is dull and slightly grey from wear, despite cleaning. This model was made for a short period in the 1980s, introducing the quick-set date change facility but preceding the introduction of synthetic sapphire glass. Comes with a period-correct Rolex 16753-stickered box set, UK papers dated September 1987 in plastic pouch (with corresponding, numbered sticker) and two Rolex UK service slips from 1997 and 1999. The watch is in very pleasing condition but with some signs of age / wear, including to the glass and bracelet. The nearest NEW equivalent is now £12,200 but this piece’s vintage appeal, accompanying accessories and lack of availability give it a market of its own. £9,299 Stock number: 52-51-046Outstanding example! Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner model 16610 T with black bezel insert and “SWISS MADE” dial on Oyster Fliplock 93250 bracelet. This Z87xxxx case number watch from around 2007 is in exceptional condition. It has spent much of its life in storage and indeed we know its history from when we first bought it, unworn in delivery stickers, twelve years ago (see narrative below). It comes with Rolex boxes, correct Submariner booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. Demand for such models in the steel Professional range may never have been greater. We are thus selling it at a premium to the NEW equivalent model’s RRP which is now £8,050 – if only you could find one!
This watch has something of an interesting history. In December 2010, Miltons spent £168,000 in a single day buying some 60 unworn, stickered Rolex watches including Sea Dwellers 16600s, stainless steel Date Submariner 16610s, Yachtmaster 16622s, Explorers 14270 / 114270 / 16570 and others. Oddly, all the watches lacked bracelets. A photograph of the watches that we won and the cover of the original auction catalogue may be viewed if you click through the main image. The story was that HMRC had intercepted these watches being smuggled into the UK in parts. Customs had seized the watch-heads and ultimately auctioned them off in a single sale to an audience of international dealers and private buyers in London. Miltons were the largest buyer by far and took home over a third of the entire sale. With the blessing of Rolex UK we were then able to purchase all the new, genuine bracelets required to make the watches complete…but for an additional £40,000+ !

It comes with both boxes, Submariner booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK warranty card from Pykes in Birkenhead dated May 2010 — both the latter explicitly confirming that it is an original 16610LV. This is a V6xxxxx case-number watch and correctly it has a numbered inner rehaut. It is in very pleasing condition although there are signs of moderate wear to the bracelet and some superficial marks to the bezel insert. There is a fatter, new equivalent model made by Rolex, though usually not available without a huge premium now. The older models have been increasingly sought after since they were discontinued some years ago. Dials with text printed in pale ink such as this are sometimes referred to as “ghost” dials, and this one is particularly attractive because the diamonds in their white metal settings stand out prominently against the darker background. In very good condition, the watch comes with Datejust booklet, international Rolex papers dated July 1989 and Rolex UK service slips dated February 2005 and November 2015. It comes in a large, embroidered Rolex presentation box, but we note that the cushion inside is a generic replacement. The nearest NEW equivalent is now £22,600! This is the short-lived transitional model (crudely named the “fat lady” by collectors) with 3085 calibre movement, its R36xxxx case number suggesting it is from 1987. Showing slight signs of its age (including some bumps to the bezel rim) but still a very attractive piece, coming with period Rolex boxes, a GMT-Master booklet from 1989, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It appears from the date code in the bracelet clasp that this part has been replaced at a later date. The current, much fatter new equivalent model is now £8,400 but these earlier models have proved increasingly desirable in their own right.

In very attractive condition, but we do note some wear to the bracelet. This circa 1992 model comes with a later YOUR OYSTER booklet, our own presentation box & warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. The new equivalent, with just a plain, fluted gold bezel and no diamonds in the dial, is now £9,350!

£14,399 Stock number: 82-47-00744mm stainless steel Rolex Yachtmaster II model 116680 with white dial and blue ceramic bezel insert on Oysterlock 78210 bracelet. Has both boxes, Yachtmaster II instruction booklet, both swing-tags, international Rolex warranty card dated January 2015…and even a little bag containing the original delivery stickers! This watch is in very nice condition but we do note some wear to the shoulders and bezel. The NEW equivalent is now £14,950 but (as with many steel versions of the Rolex professional series) supply is limited and residual prices have a life of their own.

This 1990 model is in very good condition and comes with original, embroidered Rolex box (the cushion inside is a generic replacement), Datejust booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. The nearest NEW equivalent is now £19,650! We would generally recommend that any Rolex with a gold Jubilee bracelet should be considered a dress watch, not intended for hard wear.

The Jubilee was always an attractive “dress” bracelet on ladies' models. This one shows moderate signs of wear, reflected in the price. It should be considered a dress watch, but if worn sensibly has much life in it yet. The nearest new equivalent today would be a 28mm Datejust on Jubilee bracelet with diamond dial….at £21,250!

Rolex GMT-Master II, so-called “Pepsi” model 126710BLRO with black dial and that distinctive, two-tone bezel on Jubilee 69200 bracelet. We are aware that main agents have hundreds of outstanding requests for this model which at the current rate of supply would not be met for decades. Having paid well over RRP for it ourselves, we are in turn selling it at a significant premium to the list price. This late 1980s model is in very good condition for its age but please note that we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. It comes with our own presentation box, warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. This model correctly has the 3035 calibre version of the “quick-set” facility for changing the date at the end of a short month, where the user turns the crown backwards in its mid-position to advance the date. This approx. 1993 model is very attractive, coming with later Rolex boxes, Your Oyster booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It left Geneva originally with a fluted bezel, but at some point this has been swapped with a “bark finish” bezel, more commonly seen on full 18ct gold models. Priced to reflect its altered specification and general signs of age / wear to the bracelet. The NEW equivalent is now £11,200!

26mm stainless steel and white metal Rolex Datejust model 179174 with colourful Mother of Pearl / roman numeral dial, on Oyster 72130 bracelet. Comes with Rolex boxes, Datejust booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK warranty card from David M. Robinson dated July 2010. It is in excellent condition with only superficial wear to the glass and bezel. This model was last shown in UK price lists with an RRP of £6,400…but both demand and prices have risen significantly since then. If a new equivalent were available with this dial today, it is possible to calculate an approximate new price of £7,600.
