£3,599 Stock number: 12-38-034Stainless steel Rolex Datejust model 179160 on Oyster 72130 bracelet, extraordinarily fitted with a genuine silver / diamond dot dial that is usually reserved exclusively for dearer models with white metal bezels. This is a very clean-looking watch in superb order, having Rolex boxes, Datejust booklet and UK papers from Watches of Switzerland in Knightsbridge dated July 2007. While this combination of watch and dial is not listed in the standard Rolex price list, one can deduce from the base model (£4,100) and diamond dial uplift (£1,350) that a new equivalent would theoretically be £5,450…..although Rolex do not offer such a watch. Sometimes it’s good to be different; not everyone likes the fluted bezel finish on the white metal versions. This is not the first nor the most surprising combination we have seen like this: we recall a steel Daytona 116520 fitted contrary to standard spec. with a black / diamond dot dial (swapped from a white gold model), which was then serviced by Rolex UK.

Please note that while it features a time-lapse bezel, the Turn-o-Graph is still essentially a dress watch. This late 1980s model was one of the earliest examples with the upgraded 3135 calibre movement and synthetic sapphire glass. It comes with a generic box, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It looks very smart but is priced very reasonably to reflect its condition. There are general signs of age / wear but specifically there are some small marks on the dial and the crown has only about half a “turn” of thread, which compromises water resistance. If treated as a dress watch that isn't to be considered water-proof, it could be a great buy! The nearest NEW equivalent model (126233) is now £8,650.

This 963xxxx case number watch was manufactured c.1986 and has a sales receipt from Zales in New Barnet dated November 1987, when it was bought by a former member of the Royal Australian Navy. It comes with original boxes, numbered green swing-tag, green plastic document wallet with corresponding sticker, an Oyster booklet and our own warranty card. This watch has the later dial with white gold surrounds to the indices, exhibiting a flat, slightly greying appearance from age. The NEW equivalent is now £5,700 but these older models have enjoyed very robust demand for many years.

£3,499 Stock number: 12-27-027Stainless steel Sea-Dweller model 16660 from the mid-1980s with black dial and bezel insert on Oyster Fliplock 93160 bracelet. It has the later dial with white gold surrounds to the luminous dots, but why is it so cheap ? We're selling this as a well-worn “beater,” a Rolex for everyday use which is already somewhat worn so that you don't mind getting further wear or cosmetic marking. The glass shows visible wear to the edge, the bezel is somewhat stiff and the worn bracelet appears to have had some repairs carried out by a third party, not Rolex. To be specific, the two end links are a more modern 93160A solid end link and a curious “592 Z” in the older style, while we believe the wet-suit extension part of the clasp not to be original. Mechanically the Rolex 3035 calibre movement is running well, testing close to perfect for us during April 2014. Sold with our own presentation box and warranty card.
