£2,499 Stock number: 12-59-086TO BE SOLD AS IT CAME TO US, without mechanical warranty : Gent's stainless steel Omega Speedmaster Professional “Moonwatch” model 145022-71 ST, circa 1971. Fitted with good length 1175 bracelet and the “DN90” bezel insert (there is a dot next to the 90 on the bezel insert and the word TACHMETRE is written in larger letters than on the DO90 insert). 861 calibre movement with 3161xxxx number, correctly in the range expected of this model. Original black, stepped / T SWISS MADE T dial in lovely condition, so much nicer than the less desirable service dial. We are not vintage Omega specialists and rather than try to restore it ourselves we would prefer to sell it directly to a collector who can then service and restore it sympathetically as they wish, so it will be SOLD AS SEEN. For what it is worth, the watch seems to be running steadily at a loss of 20 seconds per day without the chronograph and a dry vacuum test suggests it is not water resistant. We have set the price to reflect recent auction results for similarly unserviced and unrestored examples. This started as a 1970s model 1505 / 3 but a new, replacement “44xxxxx” mid-case and dial was provided by Rolex themselves within the last 20 years. These early models did not have a “quick-set” facility for changing the date at the end of a short month, so the hands have to be turned forward 24 hours to advance it when needed. Please note that (1) the dial and hands show minor signs of age / wear and (2) we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. £2,499 Stock number: 52-15-007Bicolour Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust model 1601(3) from around 1970 with silver / baton “pie-pan” dial. This name reflects the dial profile, its chapter ring edge dropping away from the central surface. The early style of Jubilee bracelet with folded metal links is correct, though it has been fitted with a 62510H service clasp at some point after 1990. Originally this watch will have been fitted with the softer, acrylic glass but it appears more recently to have been fitted with a third party (non-Rolex) synthetic sapphire glass. Typically these are harder wearing than the originals, though a vintage purist might wish to revert. Because of its age, we offer it with only a ONE year warranty and ask you to note : (1) we no longer guarantee these older models to be water-resistant (2) this 1575 calibre model correctly has no “quick-set” facility for changing the date at the end of a short month, so the wearer must turn the hands through 24 hours to advance the date (3) the bracelet and dial both show signs of age and wear (4) while running well, there is slightly more noise from the movement rotor than you might expect from a modern watch. This watch is in very nice condition for its age and does contain the 3035 calibre movement which introduced the quick-set date-change feature, but it is an acrylic glass model and we no longer recommend that such watches be considered water-resistant. While the gold-coloured dial seems unusual on a steel watch, this was an option for a number of years and lends an appealing “vintage” feel to it. It is in very pleasing condition, showing few signs of its age. The Oyster Precision is an entry-level model and it should be noted that (1) it needs to be manually wound each day and (2) we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. This 1986 model with the 3035 calibre movement is in surprisingly nice condition for its age and still retains its inner box, Datejust booklet and numbered, plastic document pouch containing our own warranty card. Unusually, this watch has been fitted with a synthetic sapphire glass that is not by Rolex, to update the older and more easily marked acrylic glass. We don't as a rule approve of such work, but this appears to have been very well executed, it modernises the watch and tests well for water-resistancy.
