£15,999 Stock number: 52-66-019GENUINE diamond dial and bezel, both by Rolex ! 36mm Rolex Day-Date model 18038 in 18ct yellow gold on President 8385 bracelet with striking black / diamond dot dial AND a full diamond bezel, from Rolex ! Yes, this circa 1986 watch had its original gold, fluted bezel replaced with a new DIAMOND bezel direct from Rolex through one of their main agents (and confirmed by them)! Its case back appears to show Rolex UK service markings from 1999 and 2004. It is in very good condition but we do note that the GLASS is a generic replacement, not by Rolex. It comes with a modern Rolex box-set, original Day-Date booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. With diamond bezel and dial, a new equivalent 128348 model would now cost £46,300 !

Please note that this watch has been customised by a third party (not Rolex). The original 12-diamond bezel has been replaced with a full-diamond bezel NOT made by Rolex, while the shoulders have been after-set with diamonds. As loyal devotees to the Rolex brand we are not great fans of customised pieces and will not supply such parts to customer request, but when our pawnbroking departments are left with one that is already fitted they are usually very popular! Rolex would not provide service support for such a watch, but luckily it contains one of the most common movements and parts / service are available from others. This mid-to-late 1980s model is in very good condition for its age but please note that we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. It comes with Rolex UK service slip from 1997, a generic box, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. This model correctly has the 3035 calibre movement with “quick-set” facility for changing the date at the end of a short month, where the user turns the crown backwards when in its mid-position to advance the date. This late 1980s model was one of the earliest examples with the upgraded 3135 calibre movement and synthetic sapphire glass. It comes with a generic box, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It looks very smart but is priced very reasonably to reflect its condition. There are general signs of age / wear but specifically there are some small marks on the dial and the crown has only about half a “turn” of thread, which compromises water resistance. If treated as a dress watch that isn't to be considered water-proof, it could be a great buy! The nearest NEW equivalent model (126233) is now £8,650.

The main watch-head of this 1988 model is in excellent condition (and still in service stickers) after a £524 overhaul at Rolex UK, but the Jubilee bracelet was the “dressier” option and that part does show moderate wear, with minor bumps and distortion . We suggest that this watch should now properly be kept for dress wear. It comes with original 16018 box set, Datejust booklet and the Rolex UK service card dated August 2019. The last time a NEW equivalent appeared in Rolex’s price list, it was £21,400!

Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner model 16610 T / LV with Mark V maxi dial and green “slim 4” / “thin 4” bezel insert on Oyster Fliplock 93250 bracelet. This is an M3xxxxx case-number watch in excellent condition with both boxes in delivery sleeve, Submariner booklet, red swing-tag, original UK warranty card from Aurum Group (Goldsmiths etc) dated September 2009 and a Rolex UK service card dated August 2019 (both cards explicitly confirming that it is an original 16610LV). Correctly, this version has a numbered inner rehaut. It recently enjoyed a full mechanical overhaul at Rolex UK costing £812, which also included a new bezel insert, glass and crown, though the service stickers have been removed. There is a fatter, new equivalent model made by Rolex, though usually not available without a huge premium now. £7,499 Stock number: 52-19-009Collectible Date Submariner 16800 with gorgeous, original dial….fresh from 2019 service by Rolex UK! Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner 16800, the “transitional” model with synthetic sapphire glass, matt black dial and quick-set 3035 calibre movement on Oyster Fliplock 93150 / VE bracelet with 593 end-links. This is a desirable model, especially when fitted with the early dial that does not have white metal surrounds to the hour indices. With a 6.3m case number this one dates from the early 1980s, right at the start of the model’s short production run. It appears that inter alia the hands and bezel insert have been replaced at service, their luminous material not sharing the patina of that on the dial. A very nice example of an interesting version about whose future value many will speculate, it comes with Rolex boxes (possibly later?), our own warranty card and the Rolex UK service card dated January 2019. The new equivalent is now £6,550 (if you can find one), but a watch like this has increasingly enjoyed its own market.
