Stainless steel Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust model 17000 from the late 1970s, which appears to have been fitted later with a blue / baton dial from a bicolour version of the model (note the yellow gold fittings and text). Contrary to the widely-held belief of a million wine-bar experts, for over twenty years Rolex DID make a quartz watch whose second hand TICKS rather than sweeps, as one might otherwise rightly expect of their mechanical watches. These Oysterquartz models are quite rare and their chunky looks are not to everyone's taste, but they have a following and this early example is in very nice condition. It comes with Rolex boxes, Oysterquartz booklet, Rolex UK service slip from July 2004 and our own warranty card. We like to warn prospective buyers just how LOUD the ticking sound always is on the Rolex 5035 quartz module. If you enjoy stalking lions, work for the Special Forces or are plagued by fears that a ticking bomb might be under your living room chair, this may not be the model for you. £4,599 Stock number: 52-08-014Stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss model 116400 with black / index baton dial having orange detail and “lightning” seconds hand, on Oyster 72400 bracelet. In superb condition with boxes, Milgauss booklet and UK warranty card from Aurum Group (specifically their Goldsmiths store in Liverpool One) dated April 2010. The original Milgauss was the model 6541 introduced back in 1956; subsequent models remained in production until 1988, albeit for the most part in the form of the next-generation 1019 variant. It was designed as an especially anti-magnetic model for nuclear scientists near Rolex HQ in Switzerland but has since won desirability in its own right. This watch is one of the newer versions launched at Basel in 2007. Many clients love the Milgauss simply for being such a big watch, with its lovely, clear dial options and funky colour accents. This specific model now appears to be discontinued. The last NEW equivalent RRP was £5,650 but in October 2018 Rolex UK raised their prices by around a further 5%! £5,399 Stock number: 50-08-202Milgauss with green glass…but it’s NOT a GV model ! Stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss model 116400 on Oyster 72400 bracelet with black / plain index dial, distinctive orange “lightning strike” seconds hand and (most curiously) a green-tinted synthetic sapphire glass. Green sapphire glass is normally found only on the “GV” versions of the Milgauss, which this is specifically not — it is a simple 116400, as the standard index dial and Rolex UK’s records show. We believe that the glass was fitted in error during service work by Rolex UK; they have confirmed that they serviced it, but do not record whether they fitted a plain or green glass in error! As can be seen in the additional images (which can be viewed by clicking on the main picture), we have compared it with a genuine GV and are confident that the green sapphire glass is genuine, showing the same depth, colour and bevelled edge as our control example. The watch is in excellent condition with negligible signs of wear. It comes with Rolex boxes, Milgauss booklet, red swing-tag, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. Its V3xxxxx case number dates it to around 2009. The highly anti-magnetic Milgauss models were re-introduced into the Rolex range over a decade ago but remain very popular. Only a Milgauss GV model is available today, with a NEW RRP of £6,650. Like many of the more unusual Professional Rolex models in stainless steel, they can be hard to find at main agents. Furthermore, the discontinued, plain 116400 with simple index batons like this watch is now sought after in its own right.

The case even retains its service stickers – our previous client simply asked us to store it for him in our safes. We drew this specifically to the attention of Rolex UK but they have been happy to accept it for service and record that number as being correct. The bargain price reflects the fact that the bracelet shows signs of denting, repair and metal staining. Dating from around 1989, this watch is in extraordinary condition for its age; the case, bezel and bracelet appear to retain their factory finish and the green sticker is still on the case-back! Only the dial, which has mellowed evenly from a deep blue to an attractive lilac colour as they often did, shows signs of its age*. This is the chronometer-rated model, as shown by the SCOC text in the lower half of the dial. As often, it seems that its bracelet was up-graded with a new Oyster 78350 fitted around 1997. Upon very close inspection the dial shows some minor signs of age, but this is an outstanding “entry-level” Oyster Perpetual. Please note that we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. Comes with our own presentation box and warranty card.
