Its case back appears to show Rolex UK service marking from 2005, which may have been when it was fitted. It comes with large, original box-set, Datejust booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK papers from J.J.Rudell & Co in Wolverhampton dated January 1998. £7,499 Stock number: 52-19-009Collectible Date Submariner 16800 with gorgeous, original dial….fresh from 2019 service by Rolex UK! Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner 16800, the “transitional” model with synthetic sapphire glass, matt black dial and quick-set 3035 calibre movement on Oyster Fliplock 93150 / VE bracelet with 593 end-links. This is a desirable model, especially when fitted with the early dial that does not have white metal surrounds to the hour indices. With a 6.3m case number this one dates from the early 1980s, right at the start of the model’s short production run. It appears that inter alia the hands and bezel insert have been replaced at service, their luminous material not sharing the patina of that on the dial. A very nice example of an interesting version about whose future value many will speculate, it comes with Rolex boxes (possibly later?), our own warranty card and the Rolex UK service card dated January 2019. The new equivalent is now £6,550 (if you can find one), but a watch like this has increasingly enjoyed its own market.
