£2,699 Stock number: 52-33-004Lady’s bicolour Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date model 6917 (3) on Jubilee 62523 bracelet with white / small roman numeral dial. Comes with its original boxes, numbered green swing-tag, hand-written Rolex papers from Kuwait dated June 1983 and our own warranty card. Unusually, it has been fitted with a synthetic sapphire glass that is not by Rolex, to update the older and more easily marked acrylic glass. We don’t as a rule approve of such work, but this appears to have been very well executed, it modernises the watch and tests well for water-resistance. The watch shows some signs of its age, most notably to the bracelet, but for a buyer who will wear it sensibly offers great value – especially with its boxes and papers. Please note: this early 1980s watch comes correctly with the Rolex 203x calibre movement and as such does not have the “quick-set” feature, which would allow easier correction of the date at the end of a short month; instead one must simply advance or reverse the hands 24 hours to change the date.

£4,999 Stock number: 50-18-195A gold and diamond Rolex for this price ? Gent's 18ct yellow gold and diamond Rolex Cellini mechanical (i.e. requiring daily manual winding) dress watch model 4630/8 on integral fine Milanese / ribbon-style bracelet with impressive diamond bezel and 1601 calibre Rolex movement. This watch is in exceptional condition, coming with original Cellini box-set (the cardboard outer carton is very tatty and with signs of some repair, but the main box is splendid), Cellini booklet, hand-written Rolex papers from David M. Robinson dated 20th May 1988 in original green plastic wallet and a valuation from DMR dated just days later. This slim, wind-up watch (not an Oyster model) was intended for dress wear and is not water-proof. We certainly wouldn't recommend it for everyday wear. It now seems to epitomise the flamboyant style of the 1980s, but further value here lies also in its accessories and the exceptional condition. The bracelet length remains that for a large wrist. While it has three positions for minor adjustment within the double-leaf clasp, we will NOT otherwise adjust the size of the bracelet. This watch could be considered by a collector or someone with a suitably large wrist who might treasure and wear it for a few very special occasions every year. This D65xxxx case number watch is from around 2006 and in very pleasing condition, but there are some signs of wear including to the bezel, glass, main crown and case-back, reflected in the price. In excellent condition, this watch comes with large “luggage-style” Rolex boxes (showing some signs of repair), correct Day-Date booklet (itself now increasingly valuable!) and original papers from F.A.Buck in Hanley dated June 1984. The 18038 introduced the “single quick-set” feature to allow easier setting than on previous versions of the Day-Date, thanks to its 3055 calibre movement. The NEW equivalent is now £29,100! The dial is an attractive, glossy cream “Jubilee” design with applied roman numerals. In very nice condition with original Cellini 6111/8 box-set, Cellini booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK papers from Fraser Hart dated February 2004. The strap shows some signs of wear, but it has plenty of life in it yet and as genuine Rolex ones like this are so expensive we think it fully deserves to stay with the watch a while longer. In very pleasing condition, this watch comes with original boxes, Oyster booklet, numbered green swing-tag, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It was first sold by Goldsmiths in August 1997, but the original chronometer certificate can no longer be found. Rolex UK service marks inside the case-back are consistent with a receipt we were shown that described a £630 overhaul carried out by Goldsmiths in 2015. The hands appear to have been replaced with black-painted ones, sometimes specified by those with weaker eye-sight in order to give contrast against the dial behind. £5,999 Stock number: 82-43-008Stainless steel 40mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss model 116400 with black / index baton dial having orange detail and “lightning” seconds hand, on Oyster 72400 bracelet. Comes with both boxes, Milgauss booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. In very nice condition, but we do note superficial wear to the glass. Its “M28xxxx” case number suggests it is from around 2008. The original Milgauss was the model 6541 introduced back in 1956; subsequent models remained in production until 1988, albeit for the most part in the form of the next-generation 1019 variant. It was designed as an especially anti-magnetic model for nuclear scientists near Rolex HQ in Switzerland, but with time became a rare and desirable line. This watch is one of the newer models launched at Basel in 2007, but as another discontinued version it now has a market all of its own. Many clients admire the Milgauss simply for being such a big watch, with its lovely, clear dial options and funky colour accents. Available from Miltons of Church Street, Liverpool city centre.

£2,299 Stock number: 52-41-014Superb example! Tudor Pelagos automatic divers watch, titanium model 25500T with black / grey dial on Tudor 95820T bracelet. This beautiful watch with ETA-based movement was the subject of an insurance claim and has spent much of its short life in various safes. It comes with no original accessories, but our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. There are very few signs of wear, just a few small marks around the bezel rim. More details about the current Pelagos range may be found on Tudor’s website here and a user guide (essential) can be downloaded here. The nearest NEW equivalent model now appears to be £3,640. Tudor has for many years been celebrated as Rolex’s “lower-price-point” brand, but it now attracts many followers in its own right. The model reference confirms that the diamond-set shoulders are original from the factory, by Rolex. The champagne / diamond dot dial is ALSO a genuine Rolex part, but has been fitted later. This colour dial would normally be matched with champagne-colour day & date display discs, though some find these white ones easier to read. This eye-catching watch is in very good condition with only moderate wear to the bracelet. It comes with Rolex Day-Date boxes, Day-Date booklet, UK papers from Mappin & Webb at T4 Heathrow dated May 1999 and a Rolex UK service card dated January 2015. This series of Day-Date with its 3155 calibre movements was the first to feature the double quick-set feature for easy, independent alteration of the Day and Date. A direct, NEW equivalent model with diamond lugs is no longer offered, but one even without the diamond shoulders is now £34,600 — and the last time we could find a model with diamond shoulders (December 2017) they added £3,800 to the new RRP ! We note that one of the features which betrayed pre-millennium Day-Dates was their brushed shoulders. £11,499 Stock number: 52-37-00136mm Rolex Day-Date “Tridor” model 18039B in three-colour 18ct gold from approx 1986 on matching white, rose and yellow gold President 8285 bracelet. Comes with brown “luggage” Rolex box, genuine 1986 Day-Date booklet (both being increasingly valuable accessories), our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. The silver / diamond dial has been added later – it is a genuine Rolex part, but the yellow coronet betrays the fact that it was intended for an all-yellow gold Day-Date. The white gold winding crown, however, IS correct for the TRIDOR model. We note some signs of wear / restoration to the bracelet and that the glass is generic, not from Rolex. All such factors are reflected in the price. £2,699 Stock number: 52-38-00134mm stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual DATE model 15000 from the early 1980s, with popular blue / baton dial on Oyster 78350 bracelet. This watch is in very nice condition for its age and does contain the 3035 calibre movement which introduced the quick-set date-change feature, but it is an acrylic glass model and we no longer recommend that such watches be considered water-resistant. Comes in a later Rolex box with our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. The NEW equivalent is now £5,250!

This example from the mid-1990s comes with Rolex boxes, Explorer booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It is in very pleasing condition with only moderate wear to the glass. The new equivalent now has an RRP of £6,800 but these earlier models have a market all of their own.
