£1,399 Stock number: 50-48-014Gent’s stainless steel Breitling Colt 44 quartz model A74387 with blue dial and genuine Breitling rubber strap. The dial has a subtle, “quartered starburst” background. In very pleasing condition, it comes with Breitling box set, instruction booklet, chronometer certificate and electronic warranty card showing that it was first sold in December 2013 at Goldsmiths in Liverpool.

Stainless steel Rolex Date Submariner model 16610 T / LV with Mark V maxi dial and green “slim 4” / “thin 4” bezel insert on Oyster Fliplock 93250 bracelet. It comes with both boxes, Submariner booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK warranty card from Pykes in Birkenhead dated May 2010 — both the latter explicitly confirming that it is an original 16610LV. This is a V6xxxxx case-number watch and correctly it has a numbered inner rehaut. It is in very pleasing condition although there are signs of moderate wear to the bracelet and some superficial marks to the bezel insert. There is a fatter, new equivalent model made by Rolex, though usually not available without a huge premium now. The older models have been increasingly sought after since they were discontinued some years ago. It is in good condition but we do note moderate wear to the bracelet, reflected in the price. The NEW RRP was £8,400 when an equivalent model last appeared in Rolex price lists some years ago, while the nearest new equivalent today is a steel and rose metal 37mm version at £11,350!

£1,899 Stock number: 82-45-010Lady’s 18ct yellow gold Rolex Cellini quartz model 6621/8 on brown Ostrich leather strap. In very nice condition with original Cellini boxes, Cellini booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. When we bought it, this 1990s watch had UK papers from Boodles dated 1997…..but that certificate was not the one that should have accompanied this watch and had been put with it in error, most likely when first sold. This is a slim, quartz strap watch, not an Oyster model, therefore intended for dress wear and not water-proof. While the strap bears the original, hallmarked 18ct buckle by Rolex, the leather part itself is a generic replacement, not from Rolex. There is also a small chip in the edge of the glass — all factors reflected in the price. The NEW equivalent was last listed with an RRP of £3,600! £7,299 Stock number: 82-50-03926mm Rolex Datejust in 18ct yellow gold, model 69178 with bronze / diamond dot dial on President 8570 bracelet. Dials with text printed in pale ink such as this are sometimes referred to as “ghost” dials, and this one is particularly attractive because the diamonds in their white metal settings stand out prominently against the darker background. In very good condition, the watch comes with Datejust booklet, international Rolex papers dated July 1989 and Rolex UK service slips dated February 2005 and November 2015. It comes in a large, embroidered Rolex presentation box, but we note that the cushion inside is a generic replacement. The nearest NEW equivalent is now £22,600! We would generally recommend that any gold Rolex of this age should be considered a dress watch, not intended for hard wear.

£4,999 Stock number: 52-50-017Vintage classic, from around 1987! 36mm bicolour Rolex Datejust model 16013 with silver / diamond dot dial on Jubilee 62523 bracelet. This 3035 calibre watch is in surprisingly nice condition for its age with only moderate wear to the bracelet. It has been fitted with a synthetic sapphire glass that is not by Rolex, to update the older and more easily marked acrylic glass. We don't as a rule approve of such work, but this appears to have been very well executed, it modernises the watch and tests well for water-resistance. It comes with a later Rolex box, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register to confirm that we checked it with them. The new equivalent is now £11,200!

£3,999 Stock number: 62-38-001Collectible “box & papers” set from 1987 ! 34mm stainless steel Oyster Perpetual DATE model 15000 with champagne / baton dial on Jubilee 62510 bracelet. This watch is in very nice condition for its age and contains the 3035 calibre movement which introduced the quick-set date-change feature, but it is an acrylic glass model and we no longer recommend that such watches be considered water-resistant. While the gold-coloured dial seems unusual on a steel watch, this was an option for a number of years and lends an appealing “vintage” feel to it. Comes with its original 15000 box-set, “YOUR ROLEX OYSTER” booklet with 1985 print-code, plastic document wallet with numbered sticker and COSC translation leaflet, numbered green tag and original, punched Rolex papers from Bahrain dated June 1987, which even bear the original “15000” case-back sticker. The bracelet clasp-code, “K8”, suggests that the Jubilee bracelet, which was more expensive and rarer than the Oyster on this model, is also original to the watch. Rolex no longer make a direct NEW equivalent, but a similar Datejust 31 is now £5,650. Of course, the vintage appeal of such a watch creates a market in its own right. Each is approx 12cm x 6.5cm when closed and is suitable for holding a single example of most models in the Rolex range. For a number of years these green pouches were provided by the service division of Rolex UK when they returned a watch to its owner. Many owners now use them as smart travel or storage pouches. They are pre-owned, but many have simply been in our stores since they came with a watch from Rolex. This A73xxxx case number watch from around 1999 is in very pleasing condition, although we do note some very minor marks to the bezel. It comes with Submariner booklet, later Rolex boxes, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. The larger, NEW equivalent is now £8,050 (if you can find one….) but the earlier models have proved increasingly popular in their own right. Those interested in Rolex trivia may like to note that this watch's case number suggests it was made in the same batch of 16610s from which a small number of special “Panama Canal” watches were drawn. Those Submariners (and, for the avoidance of doubt, NOT this specific watch) bore dials commissioned with a unique Panama Canal insignia in place of the usual text in the lower half and were then presented to the Canal pilots, to celebrate its passing from the United States of America to Panama.

This is the short-lived transitional model (crudely named the “fat lady” by collectors) with 3085 calibre movement, its R36xxxx case number suggesting it is from 1987. Showing slight signs of its age (including some bumps to the bezel rim) but still a very attractive piece, coming with period Rolex boxes, a GMT-Master booklet from 1989, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It appears from the date code in the bracelet clasp that this part has been replaced at a later date. The current, much fatter new equivalent model is now £8,400 but these earlier models have proved increasingly desirable in their own right.

This lovely 3185-calibre model has original boxes, GMT-Master booklet, both swing-tags*, UK papers from David M. Robinson in Liverpool dated February 2006 and a Rolex UK service card dated May 2015. It is in superb condition! The market for NEW steel GMT-Masters has now gone mad but these slightly slimmer, previous-generation models have in the last decade enjoyed a very strong market that has been all their own. £3,499 Stock number: 50-45-02636mm stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust model 16030 with smart silver / baton dial on Jubilee 62510 bracelet. This late 1980s model is in very good condition for its age but please note that we no longer guarantee these older, plastic glass models to be water-resistant. It comes with our own presentation box, warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. This model correctly has the 3035 calibre version of the “quick-set” facility for changing the date at the end of a short month, where the user turns the crown backwards in its mid-position to advance the date. £5,399 Stock number: 52-45-00236mm bicolour Rolex Datejust model 16233 on Jubilee 62523 bracelet with sparkling silver / diamond dot dial. This approx. 1993 model is very attractive, coming with later Rolex boxes, Your Oyster booklet, our own warranty card and a certificate from the ALR Watch Register confirming that we checked it with them. It left Geneva originally with a fluted bezel, but at some point this has been swapped with a “bark finish” bezel, more commonly seen on full 18ct gold models. Priced to reflect its altered specification and general signs of age / wear to the bracelet. The NEW equivalent is now £11,200!

26mm stainless steel and white metal Rolex Datejust model 179174 with colourful Mother of Pearl / roman numeral dial, on Oyster 72130 bracelet. Comes with Rolex boxes, Datejust booklet, numbered green swing-tag and UK warranty card from David M. Robinson dated July 2010. It is in excellent condition with only superficial wear to the glass and bezel. This model was last shown in UK price lists with an RRP of £6,400…but both demand and prices have risen significantly since then. If a new equivalent were available with this dial today, it is possible to calculate an approximate new price of £7,600.
